TNT has renewed Falling Skies for a fourth season. The TNT press release is listed below.
"TNT has ordered a fourth season of Falling Skies, the epic drama produced by DreamWorks Television and executive producer Steven Spielberg and starring Noah Wyle. Currently airing Sundays at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), Falling Skies is averaging 5.8 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery and ranks as basic cable’s #1 scripted series with adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 for the summer-to-date. TNT plans to launch the 10-episode fourth season in summer 2014.

Falling Skies tells the extraordinary tale of life and survival in the wake of a catastrophic alien invasion. Wyle plays Tom Mason, a college professor who becomes an unlikely resistance leader after a massive invasion by an alien force. The series also stars Moon Bloodgood, Will Patton, Drew Roy, Connor Jessup, Maxim Knight, Seychelle Gabriel, Mpho Koaho, Colin Cunningham, and Sarah Carter. Among the guest stars this season on Falling Skies are Gloria Reuben, Robert Sean Leonard, Stephen Collins and Doug Jones.

Falling Skies premiered in summer 2011 and ranked as basic cable’s #1 new series of the year. The series returned with strong numbers last year, averaging 5.6 million viewers in Live + 7 and ranking as basic cable’s #1 summer drama with adults 25-54.

In addition to Spielberg, season three of Falling Skies is executive-produced by DreamWorks Television heads Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank, along with Remi Aubuchon and Greg Beeman."

Where Is The Falling Skies News?

In our most recent podcast episode posted 02/19, we discussed the lack of Falling Skies news over this long hiatus.  Many of our listeners chimed in via Facebook and twitter, about what they thought TNT should be doing to maintain interest in the show over these extended breaks of approximately ten months.

Most of the suggestions centered around longer seasons, more behind the scenes or other videos, and more interaction with the fans via social networks.  Many of us felt that TNT did a better job engaging fans between the first and second season, and even then, their ratings still dropped by a significant amount.  Perhaps TNT felt that spent too much time or payroll on attempting to utilize the social media outlets via the last hiatus without the desired results.

I took a look of the ratings for season one and season two over at Wikipedia.  The second season saw a 21.76% drop in ratings, that's 1.042 million less viewers per episode.  The average ratings for the ten episodes of season one was 4.788 million viewers, while the average ratings of the ten episodes of season two was 3.746 million viewers.  If the ratings decline in a similar fashion for season 3, the average would be down to 2.93 million viewers per episode.

Since 2013 began, the Falling Skies Facebook Page and FallingSkiesTNT on twitter have posted a few questions about previous seasons, a few pictures,  but no info about the upcoming season three which will probably debut on Father's Day 2013.
The latest update on FallingSkies.com is a blog post from Collin Cunningham from November 1, 2012 where he suggested that we need to know the name Rob Gray, the Falling Skies Production Designer.  The latest update on from Falling Skies producer/director Greg Beeman's website is a blog post from September 30, 2012, where he answers many fan questions.

The Falling Skies Cast will keep you updated here, on Facebook and on Twitter during this very long hiatus.  We also plan to have a monthly podcast during the break.  Call or text us at (773) 35SKIES or email your feedback to fallingskiescast@gmail.com.

Falling Skies Season 3 Still Five Months Away

The long hiatus is not as long as it once was, but the first episode of Falling Skies Season 3 entitled "On Thin Ice" is still over five months away.  TNT premiered the first two seasons on Father's Day. This year Father's Day is June 16, 2013, which is currently 157 days away.

Principal photography of Falling Skies season 3 concluded back in December 2012.  The crew will probably spend the next several months of post-production for all of the SFX shots.

The Falling Skies Cast will keep you updated here, on Facebook and on Twitter during this very long hiatus.  We also plan to have a monthly podcast during the break.  Call or text us at (773) 35SKIES or email your feedback to  fallingskiescast@gmail.com.

"From executive producer Steven Spielberg, Falling Skies stars Noah Wyle as a former college professor who becomes the leader of a group of soldiers and civilians struggling against an occupying alien force.

Moon Bloodgood co-stars as Anne Glass, a therapist who works with the surviving children to help them cope with the traumatic situation. TO FALLING SKIES

THE EAGERLY ANTICIPATED NEW SERIES STARRING NOAH WYLE, PRODUCED BY DREAMWORKS TELEVISION AND EXECUTIVE PRODUCER STEVEN SPIELBERG WILL APPEAR

IN COMIC FORM ONLINE AND IN PRINT!

JULY 22ND, SAN DIEGO, CA–TNT is teaming up with publisher Dark Horse Comics to create a comic book and webcomic prequel to FALLING SKIES, the eagerly anticipated new series starring Noah Wyle (ER, TNT’s The Librarian movies) and produced by DreamWorks Television and executive producer Steven Spielberg. The comic book and webcomic are slated to be unveiled at New York Comic Con in October. FALLING SKIES, which is set to premiere on TNT in summer 2011, is a gripping drama that envisions a world where aliens have invaded, and the fate of humanity lies in the hands of a few survivors.

During New York Comic Con (Oct. 8-10), TNT and Dark Horse will distribute an exclusive, special-edition 12-14 page comic book that tells the harrowing backstory of the alien invasion. Beginning Nov. 1, fans will be able to download an extended webcomic version through tnt.tv, darkhorse.com and iTunes, with new installments posted every two weeks.

“The FALLING SKIES comic book and webcomic provide a great way for TNT to ramp up excitement for FALLING SKIES, while also providing a thrilling backstory to the series’ intriguing premise and characters,” said Tricia Melton, senior vice president of entertainment marketing for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “We look forward to working with Dark Horse Comics as we begin the FALLING SKIES invasion.”

In addition to the comic book and webcomic, Dark Horse is collaborating with TNT on the FALLING SKIES presence at this month’s Comic-Con International in San Diego. The event will include appearances and autograph sessions with series stars Wyle and Moon Bloodgood (Terminator Salvation), along with co-executive producer and writer Mark Verheiden (Heroes, Battlestar Galactica). On Friday, July 23, from 2-3 p.m. (PT), the three will appear at Dark Horse’s Comic-Con International booth, where they will sign exclusive FALLING SKIES posters. Then from 4:45 p.m. – 5:45 p.m. (PT), Wyle, Bloodgood and Verheiden will participate in a Q&A panel session in Room 6A.

In FALLING SKIES, Wyle stars as a former college professor who becomes the leader of a group of soldiers and civilians struggling against an occupying alien force. Bloodgood co-stars as Anne Glass, a therapist who works with the surviving children to help them cope with the traumatic situation. The series also stars Drew Roy (Lincoln Heights) as Hal and Maxim Knight (Brothers & Sisters) as Matt, Tom’s two sons; and Seychelle Gabriel (Weeds) as Lourdes, an orphaned teenager who helps run the group’s commissary. Will Patton (Armageddon, TNT’s Into the West) plays a fierce leader of the resistance.

FALLING SKIES is executive-produced by Steven Spielberg, along with DreamWorks Television heads Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank and screenwriter Robert Rodat. Rodat, who earned an Oscar® nomination for his screenplay for Saving Private Ryan, wrote the pilot from an idea he co-conceived with Spielberg. Verheiden and Greg Beeman (Heroes, Smallville) are co-executive producers. The pilot was directed by Carl Franklin (One False Move, Out of Time).
